Michael Hornbrook is featured in the following program(s):

Mike Hornbrook is the Economics correspondent for CBC Radio News.

He covers economic and financial trends, as well as significant business stories for the CBC's national radio audiences. Mike tries to present complex economic and business issues in ways that are accessable to Main Street Canada, but also informative to those who follow Bay Street.

Before taking up the assignment in 2004, Mike spent a decade abroad as a CBC foreign correspondent. Based in Jerusalem, he covered the Israeli-Palestinian conflict between 2000 and 2004, and travelled widely in the Arab world reporting on political, social and economic issues for the CBC's radio and television audiences.

Prior to the Middle East, Mike was based in Moscow for almost six years. There, he covered all major stories in Russia and other parts of the former Soviet Union. He reported on both wars in Chechnya, the twists and turns of Russian domestic politics, the growth of Russian crime and official corruption, and the decline of education, health care, and culture.

Mike was a National Reporter for CBC Radio from 1989 to 1994 covering the Maritime provinces. As a domestic reporter he held posts in Regina, Whitehorse and Halifax.

The Canadian Federation of Journalists awarded him the top prize for Conflict Analysis in 2002. He holds a BA (cum laude) in Political Science from the University of Regina, a diploma in Business Administration, and has studied economics at the University of Western Ontario.

Mike was born in Renfrew, Ontario and grew up in Montreal.
