With a career spanning stage, screen, television & voiceover work, Ellen David is one of the busiest actresses in her native Montreal. She won the ACTRA award for Outstanding Female Performance for her lead role in the feature film Surviving My Mother, produced by the Oscar-winning team behind Barbarian Invasions, and she has been nominated twice for Gemini awards, three times for the ACTRA award, for Quebec's Prix Gémeaux for her work in Ciao Bella, and for a Prix des Masques for her outrageous performance in Si j'avais la seule possession dessus le jugement dernier where she met her partner, Stéphane Demers (Trudeau: Maverick in the Making).
Ellen has had the opportunity to work with such noted directors as Denys Arcand (Stardom, Joyeux Calvaire, Love and Human Remains), Alan Rudolph (Afterglow, Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle), Tony Goldwyn (A Walk on the Moon), Émile Gaudreault (Mambo Italiano) and David Mamet (Heist), among many others. She’s been a regular in no less than seven television series (The Business, Sirens, Urban Angel, Bouscotte, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo), including Ciao Bella, which was filmed in both English and French for CBC and Radio-Canada. Other television and film credits include The Phantom, L'Audition, The Stork Derby, Killer Wave, Midnight Man, In the Presence of Mine Enemies, Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and the recent Barney's Version with Dustin Hoffman and Paul Giamatti, which premiered at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival.
In the theatre, her credits are substantial, and highlights include the recent Centaur theatre hit In Piazza San Domenico (Isabella), as well as The Carpenter (Maria), Dancing at Lughnasa (Rose), The Substance of Fire (Sarah), On the Verge (Mary), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Mae), Accidents de Parcours (Johanna), Desire (Bridget), Tit-Coq (Rosie), Mom's the Word (naked Barbara!), After the Orchard (Caroline) at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, and more than 200 performances as Anna in the runaway smash success Mambo Italiano in Montreal and at Toronto's Elgin Theatre.
Upcoming projects include Jay Baruchel's film Goon directed by Michael Dowse, and in the spring of 2011, Ellen will be directing the English adaptation of The Leisure Society for Infinitheatre at the Segal Centre in Montreal.
Currently Ellen is playing the character of Judith Bellow in 18 To Life.
