David Common is CBC's New York Correspondent. He was appointed to the position in July 2009, after working as European Correspondent based in Paris for three years.

Born in Winnipeg, Common grew up in Toronto and began with CBC in 1998, after studying at Stockholm University in Sweden and York University in Toronto.

He has been based in London (UK), Toronto, Fredericton, Winnipeg and Regina. But he's also travelled extensively, visiting more than 40 countries on assignment. Common has been to Afghanistan (eight times, at last count), Iraq, parts of Africa, virtually everywhere in Europe and now he moves between various U.S. states.

Common has received several awards, nominated for a Gemini twice - winning once under the Best Reportage category. He's also one of the CBC's multi-skilled journalists, able to shoot and edit his own stories as needed.

He currently lives in New York with his wife and two daughters.
